Our Purpose:

Love God - Love Others - Serve God in the World

Upcoming Bible Study

(8 sessions)

by Reverend Paula J Behrens

You will not want to miss the "Thinking of Him" Bible Study, designed to deepen your faith, as well as, help you to better understand what you believe about God, and why you believe what you believe.

Join us Sunday, March 29 @ 12 PM for an Introduction - Q & A session!

This study is the perfect segue into a future Bible Study, planned by the pastor, on the book of REVELATION.  In fact the "Thinking of Him" study is such a perfect segue, that the pastor feels that it should be a pre-requisite for the future study on Revelation!

We are currently in the planning process and seeking to find the best time for the study, but Wednesdays @ 7 PM is looks like the best choice at this time.

A "suggested" fee of $20 per person will go directly into the general budget of the church.  Books and supplies will be donated by the pastor.  Scholarships are also available.

Click here to see a PREVIEW DVD

Our plan is to offer the

sometime after Easter.

We have the Pastors' Testimony and an Invitation to the Bible Study on DVD.  Pick up as many copies as you need and then share them with everyone in your circle of influence!

We are holding a Giant (Huge, Really, really BIG) Garage & Bake Sale to benefit Eylau United Methodist Church, Friday and Saturday, May 1 & 2.  There will be something for everyone: children’s clothes & toys, adult clothes, kitchen, bathroom, living room stuff, furniture, small appliances, and knick-knacks galore — some used, some new.

So, now is the time.  Clean out those closets’ you have been putting off doing, also storage units too.  All donated items can be placed in the gym, on the left  side of the door.  We will have a sign up sheet for all those who would like to work setting up and/or during the sale.

Ann Black or Delma Kidd

Thank You for your service to our Lord!

NEW Use of Church Facilities Policy

Our NEW use of church facilities policy is now available in the old Fellowship Hall or in the church office.

Beginning April 1, 2015, a completed "Use of the church facilities" form will be required for events before said event will be added to the church calendar.  This will assure that the requested facilities will be available on your preferred date and time.

Please also make a note that we do have a new schedule of fees.  The completed form, along with the specified fee(s) are due in advance of the event and may be returned to the church office.  Thank you.

Commit 2-10

We have a New Ministry for 2015!

It's called Commit 2-10 and is about the spiritual discipline of giving.  After taking a look at the church's finances and praying over the 2015 budget, a plan became visible.  If each person will commit to increasing their offerings by 10% in 2015 we should be able to meet or at least come very close to meeting our budget.  And when the end of the year arrives we should be sailing free!

Now the Commit 2-10 card is not something that you will fill out and bring back to the church.  This is between you and God.  The Commit 2-10 card is something tangible that you can place on your refrigerator or your bathroom mirror or in your Bible.  It will then remind you of your commitment to God and His work in the world.

After thoughtful prayer, if the Lord places on your heart the desire to participate in this ministry, simply print the Commit 2-10 card (or pick one up at the church), sign it and use it as a reminder of your baptismal vows to support the church through "your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service and your witness."

Thank you for your faithfulness to support God's work, through His Church in 2015!

Our next 3rd Sunday meal will be May 17.

And we will enjoy Sandwiches, Chips and Dips!

The Ultimate Gift

If God didn’t withhold from us his very own Son, will God withhold anything we need?  If trust must be earned, hasn’t God unequivocally earned our trust with the bark on the raw wounds, the thorns pressed into the brow, your name on the cracked lips?  How will he not also graciously give us all things he deems best and right? He’s already given the incomprehensible.

- Ann Voskamp, One Thousand Gifts

Eylau United Methodist Women

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose Purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

As you can see by the purpose of the United Methodist Women, we serve by doing missions, and that is our outreach within the church.  At the present time, the Conference United Methodist Women, are helping a sister conference by collecting black children’s shoes.  The children of Mexico cannot attend school unless they wear black shoes.  We are also collecting beans and rice to send or take to the First UMC of Mercedes Texas, as they have a feeding program for children across the border.

March 28th, At First Church DeKalb, the district UMW will have its spring festival. Registration is at 9:30, and lunch will be served at noon.  Pam Kumpe will be the guest speaker.  On April 20, our local unit of UMW will meet at Eylau UMC. At 6:30 p.m.

If you wish to join United Methodist Women, you may do so by attending one of our meetings.

Four Lessons of Good Friday

The Reverend James Martin, S.J., author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage (HarperOne), writes that Jesus’ suffering and death almost 2,000 years ago are very relevant to our 21st-century lives and that Good Friday teaches us that:

1. physical and emotional suffering are part of life;

2. suffering isn’t always the result of sin;

3. Jesus was fully human — and thus understands our humanity; and

4. suffering isn’t the last word.

“The message of Good Friday is incomplete without Easter,” Martin writes. “The story of the Passion is not simply of a man being brutally tortured, nailed to a cross and executed by the Romans.  It’s the story of a man who turns himself fully over to the Father’s will, trusts that something new will come out of this offering and receives the astonishing gift of new life.”

May the presence of our Lord and Savior so fill these next few days leading up to Easter, with His awesome Grace & Peace!

Although Easter eggs were once part of pagan spring festivals, they’ve become Christian symbols of new life.  A cracked-open shell also represents Jesus’ empty tomb on Easter morning.
