Eylau United Methodist Church

Our Purpose:

Love God - Love Others - Serve God in the World

“Thinking of Him” Bible Study

Wednesdays @ 7 PM

June 3 - July 22

Make sure that your name is on the list in the Fellowship Hall so the pastor will know how many

books to order.

Why is this study important?

• Deepen your faith

• Better understand what you believe about God and why you believe what you believe.

1-      Introduction (Faith Story, Theology)

2-      God (Creator, Trinity)

3-      Creation (Providence, Human Condition)

4-      Jesus Christ (Redeemer)

5-      The Holy Spirit (Sustainer)

6-      The Church (Mission, Ministry, Word and Sacrament)

7-      Salvation (Justification, Sanctification, Prevenient Grace)

8-      Eschatology (Parousia, Everlasting Life, Kingdom of God)

This study is the perfect segue into a future Bible Study, planned by the pastor, on the book of REVELATION.  In fact the "Thinking of Him" study is such a perfect segue, that the pastor feels that it should be a pre-requisite for the future study on Revelation!

A "suggested" fee of $20 per person will go directly into the general budget of the church.  Books and supplies will be donated by the pastor.  Scholarships are also available.

We have the Pastors' Testimony and an Invitation to the

“Thinking of Him” and “Revelation” BibleStudies on DVD

Pick up as many DVD videos as you need to share with everyone in your circle of influence!

Giant Fundraiser!

May 1st & 2nd

We are ready for the Garage Sale!

We look forward to having a great sale, and want to thank everyone for all they have contributed.  We will take items through the last Sunday of April.  Also, baked goods are greatly appreciated and will be received at the Church through 8 a.m. on Friday, May 1.

Memorial Day

Is it enough to think today
Of all our brave, then put away
The thought until a year has sped?
Is this full honor for our dead?

Is it enough to sing a song
And deck a grave; and all year long
Forget the brave who died that we
Might keep our great land proud and free?

Full service needs a greater toll,
That we who live give heart and soul
To keep the land they died to save,
And be ourselves, in turn, the brave!

—Annette Wynne

Annual Conference 2015

Attendees and congregations will be blessed by joining together to “Restore Lives with the Word of Life” by helping to fund the purchase of bibles for children of inmates and for Disciple Bible Study packets for inmates. Rev. Diane McGehee, Director of the Center for Missional Excellence shares, “When Jesus announced the beginning of his earthly ministry, he stood up in the synagogue in Nazareth and read the following from the scroll of Isaiah: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor … freedom for the prisoners …to set the oppressed free…’

Texas incarcerates more people than any state in the United States.  When you include families and criminal justice system employees, the Texas prison system impacts more than 1 million people.  When a person is incarcerated, the entire family is impacted, often causing the remaining family members to spiral into poverty, become homeless, and face significant challenges, including losing the income of the chief bread winner.  Many children are faced with the pain and shame of visiting their parent in a prison visitation room.

What if they were given Bibles to read together with their family members? Many inmates need to hear God’s word of forgiveness and hope. What if they all had access to the Word of Life?  With this year’s Annual Conference Mission Project, we, the churches of the Texas Annual Conference, have a chance to make those “what if’s” a reality for more inmates and families.  We can make a difference by restoring life with the Word of Life!

The Center for Missional Excellence is asking every church in the Texas Annual Conference to take up an offering toward the cost of one or more children’s Bibles and Disciple Bible Study Packets. A donation of $50 covers the cost of one set with Bible and packet.  Simply mark your check "Annual Conference Mission Project."  Thank you for hearing the cry of the needy.

3rd Sunday Meal

May 17

Invite your friends to our next meal.  Bring your favorite sandwiches, chips and dips.  See you there!

Word + Spirit

We must not be content to have the Spirit without the Word or the Word without the Spirit. Our lives must travel along these two, as the locomotive travels along parallel rails. It is only by our devout contact with the Bible that we shall be able to detect the Holy Spirit’s voice. It is by the Word that the Spirit will enter our hearts, as the heat of the sun passes into our homes when its beams of light enter the open windows.

Eighteenth-century brothers John and Charles Wesley, co-founders of the Methodist Church, were prolific hymn writers. At one point, they made a concerted effort to increase the number of Pentecost-related hymns available to worshipers.  I thought I would share this one with you.

It is best sung to the tune of Charles Wesley’s hymn “O Thou Who Camest From Above” or may be spoken as a prayer, asking that the Holy Spirit will burn brightly in your heart and life today.

O Thou who camest from above,
the pure celestial fire to impart,
kindle a flame of sacred love
upon the mean altar of my heart.

There let it for thy glory burn
with inextinguishable blaze,
and trembling to its source return
in humble prayer and fervent praise.

Jesus, confirm my heart’s desire
to work and speak and think for Thee;
still let me guard the holy fire,
and still stir up thy gift in me.

Grace & Peace,

Pastor Paula

As the blood of Christ is the fountain of all merit, so the Holy Spirit is the fountain of all spiritual life; and until he quickens us, imparts the principle of divine life to our souls, we can put forth no vital act of faith to lay hold upon Jesus Christ.
