Our Purpose:

Love God - Love Others - Serve God in the World

The Eylau UMC Food Pantry. . . is up and running!

After much prayer and preparation, our doors were open on Tuesday, April 12 from 11AM to 2PM.  Our plans are to serve 25 families a month.  These families will be referred to us through the Eylau School District.  Our desire is to show God's love to folks outside the walls of the church in our own community.

We will be adjusting our "Open Days," so as to accommodate our current facility usage.  Beginning in May, the Pantry will be open on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays.  We will work along side Harvest Regional Food Bank (HRFB) where we will be able to dip into their time-tested expertise, connect with other participating churches in the area, while at the same time, purchasing the most food for our buck.  Why?  Well, because it is important to us that we strive to be the best stewards possible of the incoming funds.

In the future we hope to take advantage of other foods available for nonprofit church use besides dry foods, like simple meals using HRFB products.  If you would like to be a part of this outreach ministry, we have sign-up sheets in the Old Fellowship Hall.  We need volunteers for:

1) Building shelves

2) Procuring dry goods

3) Assembling bags for households

4) Taking/processing applications for food assistance

5) Record keeping & inventory control

6) As well as, your financial support.  Checks may be made out to "Eylau UMC" and marked "Social Concerns"

7) And most importantly, we need your prayers!

Thank you for your enthusiasm.  And may God's light shine brightly through your efforts, as you make a decision to join God's team of faithful servants in the Eylau community!

Annual Conference

2016 MISSION PROJECT

We are going

BACK TO THE BORDER WITH SCHOOL SUPPLIES!!!

The Center for Mission Excellence mission project this year is to help raise funds for school supplies to distribute on both sides of the border in Texas/Mexico.

We all know that education is the way to improve the future for so many disadvantaged children who attend school in the poorest communities.  For a $25 donation you can purchase a backpack filled with supplies.  For $100 donation you can supply a teacher’s box with necessary valuable supplies.  Any donation will be appreciated - $5, $10, $15 or more.

Please ask your Sunday School classes to purchase a teacher’s box or your membership to take up an offering to support this worthy project.

Donations may be brought during annual conference to the 4th floor outside the Grand Ballroom.  A table will be there to make it easy to drop off your checks.

Or the Church Financial Secretary may send the congregational donations to the conference office at Texas Annual Conference, 5215 Main St., Houston, TX  77002

Make out a check to Eylau UMC or TAC and add “School Supplies” in the notation.

To see what is in a backpack or teacher’s box, go to our website at http://www.txcumc.org/centerformissionalexcellence

The project donations will be administered by Susan Hellums, Border Area Mission Coordinator in McAllen and Willie Berman, Coordinator for the Mexican Methodist Border Mission in Reynosa, Mexico.

Contact:  Missional Excellence if you have questions at 713-521-9383, ext. 301.

Memorial Day

“Eternal Father, Strong to Save,” often known simply as “The Navy Hymn,” dates back to 1860, when William Whiting wrote it for a student of his about to travel by ship from England to America.

Original verses testified to the protection of God the Father, Christ, the Holy Spirit and the Trinity. In 1940, the U.S. Episcopal Church rewrote the hymn to include travel on land and in the air. Many verses have been written since: for Navy SEALs, submariners, astronauts, military families, ship dedications and more.

The following verse, is for Memorial Day:

We thank you, God for loved ones dear

Who clung to faith beyond their fear,

Who served and paid the highest price

For freedom bought with sacrifice

May they remind us of your Son

Whose death our final freedom won.

Memorial Day challenges us to live so as to honor the sacrifices made by members of the military. We value our freedom because of the heavy price people have paid for it. Likewise, every day we’re challenged to live so as to honor Jesus’ supreme sacrifice. He calls us to spend our “priceless liberty” using our blessings to bless others.
