Blessing of the Animals

Sunday Oct 9 @ 11 AM

God Loves the Animals!  In the Biblical story of Noah and the Ark, it is clear that God provided for the blessing of the animals just as for the blessing of people.  So, we thought it appropriate that we have a special Sunday set aside for the Blessing of the Animals.

It is amazing how well the animals get along together in this setting, but we do encourage pet owners to bring their pets in carriers or on leashes.  It assures the owners that nothing is going to startle the animal or cause it to run away in a unknown setting.

* Everyone is invited to bring items for the care of the animals at the Texarkana Animal shelter, such as:

Dog Food

Cat Food

Bleach

Flea & Tick Shampoo

old towels

old blankets

old sheets

old pillowcases

old pillows

(see Elizabeth for more details).

The Blessing will be a part of our 11 AM worship service.

Giant Fundraiser!

Garage Sale - Bake Sale - Free Beans & Cornbread (on Saturday)

October 14 & 15

We are holding a Giant (Huge, Really, really BIG) Garage & Bake Sale to benefit Eylau United Methodist Church, Friday and Saturday, October 14 & 15.  There will be something for everyone: children’s clothes & toys, adult clothes, kitchen, bathroom, living room stuff, furniture, small appliances, and knick-knacks galore — some used, some new.

So, now is the time.  Clean out those closets you have been putting off doing, also storage units too.  All donated items can be placed in the gym, on the left  side of the door.  We will have a sign up sheet for all those who would like to work setting up and/or during the sale.

If you have any items you’d like to donate, you need more information or you would like to donate an hour or two to this effort please contact:

First United Methodist / Texarkana

Sunday, October 23 @ 6:00 PM

The United Methodist Church is a connectional system.  No local church exists independently, but all are linked and connected in a system of mutual support and accountability through district, annual conference, jurisdictional conference, and general conference.  According to the laws of the United Methodist Church as set forth in The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, at the local church level, the charge conference is the basic unit in the connectional system.

The date for the Annual Charge Conference is set by the district superintendent, who is the presiding officer. The primary purpose of the charge conference is to review and evaluate the total mission and ministry of the church, receive reports, and adopt goals recommended by the Church Council. Charge conference provides an opportunity to review the ministry of the church over the past year and determine the direction of the church in the coming year, including the election of church leaders and the adoption of the pastors’ salary.

This year, our District Superintendent, Rev Chuck Huffman, has decided that Eylau UMC’s charge conference will be held as part of a cluster with other churches in the Texarkana area. Even so, it will still provide the opportunity to focus on the mission and ministry of Eylau UMC.

Please make plans now to attend and learn where we are and where we hope to go next year as the Body of Christ in this place and in this time. Hope to see you there.

Pack the Pew Sunday

Pack the Pew Sundays happen every 5th Sunday at Eylau United Methodist Church.

It begins with Sunday School for all ages at 9:45 a.m., and continues with our 5th Sunday Singing service at 11:00 a.m.  In addition members are encouraged to F-R-A-N-GELIZE each 5th Sunday by inviting Friends, Relatives, Associates and Neighbors to worship with us.

F-R-A-N-GELISM is another name for Evangelism and it's purpose is to “bring to life” the words in Matthew 28: 19-20 and Acts 1:8.

Matthew 28:19-20 - "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Acts 1:8- "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

The next 'Pack the Pew' Sunday is October 30, 2016.

Quiet Hour

Speak, Lord, in the stillness, while I wait on Thee;
hushed my heart to listen, in expectancy.
Speak, O blessed Master, in this quiet hour,
let me see Thy face, Lord, feel Thy touch of power.

For the words Thou speakest, “They are life” indeed;
living Bread from heaven, Now my spirit feed!
All to Thee is yielded, I am not my own;
blissful, glad surrender, I am Thine alone.

Fill me with the knowledge, of Thy glorious will;
all Thine own good pleasure, in my life fulfill.
Like a watered garden, full of fragrance rare,
ling’ring in Thy presence, let my life appear.

—Emily M. Crawford
