Christmas Offering

Rethink Christmas is a time of Hope, Joy, Peace and Love.  But how many times do we find ourselves running… coming home late, exhausted and empty?

All are invited to Rethink Christmas as we discover how to:

• Worship Fully (during a season where Love enters in, Peace reigns and a King is celebrated)...

• Spend Less (Making the gifts we give mean more and cost less)...

• Give More (Time is the real gift that Christmas offers and it is not found in the Mall)...

• Love All (When Jesus loved, He loved in ways unimagined)...

This year we have the opportunity to help make a real difference in the world by giving a Special Christmas Offering in the name of Christ for our 2017 Budget

Simply place your offering in the plate when it comes by, or drop it in the mail, with the notation "2017 Budget".

Advent Worship at Home

Advent is a time of yearning and gestation, a season when God’s Spirit seeds our souls with what seems impossible.

Pick up your free copy of the Upper Room (Nov-Dec)

to find Advent Litanies.

Each litany invites lighting a candle to embody both the desire for something new and the affirmation of its coming. You may choose to use an Advent wreath or a single candle. Allow time both before and after the candle lighting for silent reflection on the questions in each litany. If you use these in small-group worship, after lighting the candle you may invite group members to mention one insight or idea that came to them during the silent reflection.

Greetings in the Name of our Lord

Don’t miss Christmas this year! What will you hear and see this Christmas? Or better yet… If you had been there at Bethlehem the night that Christ was born, what would you have heard and seen then? Being among those present… would you have understood? Would you have known that Jesus was, indeed, the Savior… the Messiah that the world had been waiting for? Well, there is one way you might know… Ask yourself what you have seen and heard in Christmas’ past.

What did you see?: When you watched the local news did you see chaos and strife, or did you see sheep without a shepherd? When you went out to do your shopping did you see only crowds of people in the stores, or did you see the worried expressions on some of their faces… because they would be facing Christmas without employment or enough money and didn’t know how they would make ends meet?

And what did you hear?: Did you hear only the blast of music and carols, or did you hear the silent sighs of the lonely and the bereaved who were dreading Christmas because it accentuated their loneliness? While you heard about all the new and perfect gifts available this Christmas season… did you hear the cries of empty hearts because they had never heard about the only gift that is truly perfect? And in the midst of the sounds of honking horns and people arguing over parking places, did you hear faint sounds of laughter coming from local missions projects because someone had furnished food and toys for needy families and their children… or had heard and responded to the outcry for the specific needs of their own community?

You see, so often what you see and what you hear is not dependent upon the event but upon you. If you did, in fact, see the sheep without a shepherd amid the bustling crowds; if you did see the needs of the less fortunate and the under or unemployed. And if you did hear the silent sighs of the lonely and bereaved.

And if you did hear the cries of empty hearts without Christ. If you heard the laughter coming from the local mission as empty stomachs were being filled. And if you heard your own voice as you acted upon the urge to share the story of Jesus with another. If you made the decision to open your heart to a new mission that God has been talking about for some time. Then, maybe you would have, also, noticed the events that took place in Bethlehem that night. Listen to the story once again:

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom He favors!’ And the shepherds said: ‘Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us...’ And when they saw and told what they had heard about the child… everyone in that place was amazed… And they returned, glorifying and praising God for everything they had heard and seen (Paraphrase of Luke 2:13-20).

May your heart be so filled with the Joy and Love of Christ, this Advent season that it can’t help but overflow into our community… thus bringing glory to His name and a song of praise into your heart. All of that will be made possible as you open your eyes and ears to the true sights and sounds of Christ-mas this year.

Peace & Blessings,

Pastor Paula
