Memorial Sunday Meal

(May 28 @ noon)

This Memorial Sunday we will be honoring and remembering our Veterans during the worship service, as well as, during a shared Potluck meal.

Annual Conference

“Unified” is the theme for this year’s conference at The Woodlands UMC from May 28-31

After several years in Downtown Houston, delegates will go to a new location, use a new app that greatly reduces the need for paper, and enjoy “TAC Talks,” similar to the popular corporate “TED talks” by some of our own ministry experts. No worries, however, Wi-Fi is readily available in this year’s location, so if you are not physically attending the 2017 Annual Conference at The Woodlands UMC May 28-31, you can tune in for live streaming of all the main events. This provides a basic introduction to the 2017 conference.
To save over $35,000 on printing costs for the pre-conference journal and worship guides, worship leaders Craig Gilbert and Michael Vaughn have recommended delegates access information before and during the conference via the Guidebook app. It will include maps of the venue, restaurant lists, hotel information, social media links, and even a community photo album. More information on how to access and use this new tool will be given at the pre-conference meetings.
This year’s conference host church is 30 miles north of Downtown Houston, provides ample parking and convenience to hotels and a number of restaurants within walking distance.
“This is our first year to go paperless,” notes TAC Communications Director Paula Arnold, “and our first year to host a session featuring three TAC Talks targeting a specific topic with a 20-minute presentation.” These speakers and topics include Rev. David Dorn on the topic of social media, Pam Fulbright-Scheyer, of Crossroads at Park Place on answering God’s call as a lay person, and Cassandra Nunez of Galena Park UMC, speaking on outreach to the changing mission field.
This year’s ordination speaker is Bishop Scott J. Jones for the worship service Tuesday, May 30 at 7:00 pm. Delegates will be voting on five resolutions from General Conference.

Dear Church Members and Friends,

I wanted to take this opportunity to send a note of thanks and appreciation to you as I move on to my next appointment in ministry.  As you probably already know, my last Sunday as pastor of Eylau UMC will be June 18.

If I could write a letter just filled with the words "thank you" over and over, it seems that I would never be able to write enough of them to truly express how I feel about the time I spent here serving as your pastor.

What a joy it has been as we have broken bread together, both in the material and spiritual sense.  Also, we have known great victories, and yes, even a few heartaches along the way, but those times have simply helped to magnify the joyful times so much more!

Rest assured, you will be in my thoughts and prayers as I move on from here.  I was quite surprised about all of this in the beginning, but have adjusted to the thought of it all which I'm sure you have as well.

Our lives find completion and satisfaction when we are in the center of the Will of God, which is exactly where I want to be.  I know you are desirous of that too.

Keep loving and serving people and you will be amazed at how God will honor your efforts in the days, weeks, and months ahead.  There are so many "out there" who are still waiting to hear the message of the Gospel, and as you know, this message is one we not only share verbally, but our very lives should, also, reflect the love of God for others.

Philemon 1:3-6  Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers, hearing of your love and faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints, that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Blessings in Christ!

Pastor Paula

Islam & Christianity

(Sundays – 5 PM)

Journey with a former Muslim as he shares the evidence that led him from Islam to Christianity.

• What do Muslims believe about Christianity and Jesus.

• What do Muslims believe about prophets, the Christian Bible and the Quran?

• How do the messages of Christianity and Islam differ?

In “Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus,” we will discuss these and many other interesting questions.

Join us for an 8 week study

Continues through June 11, 2017

One Sunday in 1909, Sonora Smart Dodd listened to a sermon honoring mothers. Her mother had died some years before, so her father had raised her by himself. Dodd wondered why there wasn’t a day to honor fathers, so she arranged a tribute to her father at a church in Spokane, Washington. The date was June 19, 1910. Many people believe this was the beginning of Father’s Day.

Another account holds that a West Virginia church held a tribute service for fathers in 1908, following a mine explosion that killed 360 men. Regardless of which story is correct, President Calvin Coolidge was the first president to designate a special day to honor fathers. In 1924, he proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day.

Next Fellowship meal will be May 28!

This will be a special meal to honor our Veterans.
